In order to attract excellent students to apply for postgraduate study in our school, a nationwide summer camp with 17 selected candidates was carried out by School/Hospital of Stomatology of Lanzhou University from July 7^th to 9^th.

 

On July 7^th, the opening ceremony of the summer camp was held in the Medical Laboratory Building 639, East District of Chengguan Campus. Li Liuhao, Party Secretary, Professor Liu Bin, Dean of School/Hospital of Stomatology, Ding Shaochun, Deputy Party Secretary, Professor Wang Jing, Vice Dean, Associate Professor Li Zhige, Vice Dean, Cheng Zhe, Director of the Office, and Xing Qianli, postgraduate secretary attended the opening ceremony which was presided over by Vice Dean Wang Jing.

Professor Liu Bin, Dean of School, delivered a speech and gave an in-depth introduction to the urban development and evolution of Lanzhou and the history of School/Hospital of Stomatology of Lanzhou University. He pointed out that School/Hospital of Stomatology always regards talent training as the starting point for all, wished all of the students having a deeper understanding of the school by a couple of days’ experiences, and encouraged everyone to visit Gansu, discover Lanzhou, apply for Lanzhou University and choose stomatology as major. Subsequently, Professor Wang Jing, Deputy Dean delivered a speech on postgraduate enrollment in 2022, which elaborated the speed and potential of the development of Gansu Province and Lanzhou University by showing up the rapid changes. By focusing on the school's general situation, faculty, academic exchanges, and enrollment policies, Professor Wang Jing demonstrated a blueprint of the school to the candidates.

 After the opening ceremony, all the candidates visited the School History Museum of Lanzhou University. With respect, all the students listened carefully to the explanations of Lanzhou University’s vicissitude, from the moment of the founding of the school to the new development period, from the precious relics to the exquisite pictures of today. Through the visit, the candidates had a deeper understanding of the importance of Lanzhou University which is a scientific base adhering to the northwest and striving in the west. Afterwards, all the candidates led by Professor Wang had visited Hospital of Stomatology of Lanzhou University. She introduced the department’s HR structure, medical facility and technology, and layout planning of the hospital to the students.

 

From July 7^th to 8^th, foreign experts were invited to deliver three academic lectures. Dr. Yangpei Cao from the Woody Hunt School of Dentistry, Texas Tech University Medical Center, gave a lecture on the topic in the form of academic discussion and experience sharing, focusing on dental and pulp diseases, apical surgery and other aspects. Dr. Cao shared his professional knowledge through explanations, questions and discussion, and inspired students' academic thinking. Professor Xuebin Yang from the University of Leeds, U.K. explained the dental education system in the UK, the development of PHD and MSC at the University of Leeds, and the dental pulp tissue engineering in stem cell treatment methods, which not only guided students to understand the higher education development system of foreign dentistry, but also inspired students’ confidence to pursue their career and participate in exchanges. Professor Chaozong Liu from the University of London, U.K. focused on the basics and applications of biomaterials, the surface engineering theory of biomaterials, and the development of orthopedic bioengineering technology at the University of London, which enabled students to broaden their international perspectives and understand cutting-edge technology and knowledge at home and abroad.

 

On the morning of July 8^th, the school organized all students to take a comprehensive examination, which concluded assessments on operational skills, foreign language level and professional knowledge. Majority of the students actively responded and showed their talents.

On the morning of July 9^th, all the candidates visited the Lanzhou Office of the Eighth Route Army and the Lanzhou Urban Planning Museum, and drew strength from the education of Party history and the Red culture.

 

 

On the afternoon of July 9^th, there had been a personal demonstration for candidates in the medical laboratory building, and the panel consists of Professor Wang Jing, Professor Fan Zengjie, Professor Zhao Yuan, and Associate Professor Zhang Kailiang. After each candidate’s presentation, the experts asked questions about the students' research interests and research ideas. Through personal presentations, the teachers had a deeper understanding of everyone's comprehensive ability and academic research potential. At 17:00 PM, the closing ceremony of the summer camp was held. Professor Wang Jing, vice dean, presided over the ceremony. She highly praised all candidate's performance in the past three days, and once again encouraged everyone to apply for our school for the further study.
